Managing VAT
The Ballyhoo Commerce system makes it easy to configure shipping rules to allow customers from all over the world to purchase your goods. It also helps manage your VAT (if you are VAT registered) when selling internationally.
Customers Within the UK
If a customer places an order on your site to be dispatched within the UK, VAT will automatically be added to the order at the current rate.
Customers Within the EC (European Community)
Customers wishing to have thier goods dispatched to another EC Member State fall under the intra-Community supply rules. In such a case, the customer will be asked to provide an EC VAT registration number. If they are VAT registered in their respective country they may provide their registration number in order for VAT to be removed from their order.
However, it is your responsibility as the vendor to make reasonable attempts to ensure the registration number is correct. We recommend using the VAT Information Exchange System (VIES) provided by the Taxation and Customs Union to check that the number is valid before dispatching any goods within the EC.
Customers Outside of the EC (European Community)
Any order to be dispatched outside of the EC will not have VAT applied.
